Another Camso V8 race

Last Friday I received again an invitation for Camso V8 during The Days of British Power at Warneton Speedway. The T-car from Kurt Dujardin and Anton Gonissen (both Le Mans and Paris Dakar drivers) was offered to me. A chance which I couldn't resist of course. On Saturday I did two practice sessions of 30 laps each. Together with Gary Ellis (driver and mechanic of Roots V8 Racing) I decided to make a small change on the set up. The seat fitted perfect, all pedals perfect and the steering wheel too. On Sunday 3 races and a final. During the day the atmosphere was fantastic, but also a lot of damage occured. Lucky enough for me and the car I was able to avoid all the collisions. At one moment two cars spun in front of me and I was able to drive around them. Behind me I saw Emma Parker Bowles (the cousin of Camilla). She was there to make a report for Sky Television. On Friday she was at the Action Racing school and on Sunday Roots V8 Racing and me were providing support. Anyway, she couldn't avoid the two cars. I saw it happen in my rear mirror and I put the car in first gear and behind me 3 cars drove into the two cars. One car (the Dodge from Xavier VanderMeersch) was on the roof of Emma's Car and then it was time to stop for a few seconds. No scratch on my car and I drove backwards and parked the car on start/finish. What a narrow escape!!
Gary damaged his car in the final so the next day he drove the T-car and I was driving Tony Roots' old car the nummer #77. During the evening I swapped the starting number into number 88 (my old number and favourite one!) The races one monday same story. A lot of damage and an extra briefing. The next two races were perfect and in the final I took the lead. After 20 laps (15 to go) I had 200 meters distance between me and the number 2. A car spun again and we had a restart, which I did completly wrong. Instead of controling the speed, I was tailing the startcar, so all cars behind me know exactly when I was on the throttle. Stupid, but also a big lesson. At the end I had a nice battle with Tony and I finished 5th. My good friend and instructor of the Action Racing School Mike de Bruijn had also a fantastic weekend: starting from a 55th place he managed to win the final with fantastic overtaking move and high speed drifting. Good job Mike!
